Brandon J. Raub’s was taken into custody by Chesterfield County Police the evening of August 16th. Robinson is accused of making threatening face book posts. Raub is an honorably discharged Marine Corps veteran and supporter of Congressman Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential campaign.

Initial reports of Raub’s detention assert that his detention was the result of a Virginia mental health warrant, a civil procedure allowing for the preemptive incarceration of individuals deemed a threat to public safety, despite the accused not being formally charged with a crime. Julian Assange, the Australian born founder of the transparency group Wikileaks, issued a public press conference from the London, UK Ecuadorian Embassy earlier this morning. Today’s press conference was Assange’s first contact with journalists since his seeking asylum from the Ecuadorian Embassy in June of this year.

Assange had been confined to house arrest in London, pending appeal of extradition to Sweden on charges of rape. Assange continues to defend his innocence, claiming that any sexual behavior had been consensual, and that the charges are politically motivated slander designed to discredit Wikileaks.

‘Mostly on the Edge’ is the incomplete memoir of the late Karl Hess. Hess’s is most famous for being the primary speechwriter for Barry Goldwater’s 1964 presidential campaign. Hess was a pivotal figure within the 20th century libertarian movement, involved with many of the key leaders and fellow travelers of the movement.

I have participated in most of the major cultural and political-social movements of our time, excepting only one. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a liberal. I’m a classical laissez-faire liberal, but not your modern, mainstream, big-government liberal. Heaven forbid.

Butler Shaffer’s latest work, ‘The Wizards of Ozymandias’, is the author’s latest exploration of the conflict between inertia of the state and the order of civil society. Shaffer presents “institutionalism”, “the transformation of organizational systems from convenient tools, into their own purposes for being”, as the primary danger afflicting modern civilization. Shaffer’s analysis relies heavily on the analytical framework of Austrian Economics, as well as Hayek’s concept of “spontaneous order”.

These destructive influences can be analogized to a virus which, if left unchecked by inattentiveness, can metastasize and overwhelm immune systems. This virus is institutionalism, or the transformation of organizational systems from convenient tools, into their own purposes for being.
